When used as burner media Fire Glass And Lava Rock are typically used as decorative media to fill and cover a fire pit burner. They can also be placed over a vented gas log burner in a fireplace that has been converted to gas, or used with a fireplace burner kit specifically designed to be used with Fire Glass or Lava Rock. Fire glass and lava rock cannot cover the burner ports on a Vent Free or Direct Vent fireplace unless indicated in the appliance manual. Typically the media covers the burner by up to 2″.
